Mother Through the Smoke
Project type
Paint pour
This artwork portrays a woman holding a baby in the smoke of a fire. I used the technique of paint pouring. I mixed black and white into a cup and poured it on a canvas creating a piece. My inspiration for naming it was the prominent figure in the painting that looked a lot like a woman's face holding a baby's head. I included the smoke aspect because I wanted the viewers to think about the sad act of war and what happens to the innocence of that war during a bomb or fire. I wanted people to be sad when they looked at that painting. My goal is to get better at paint pours and create beautiful paintings with just black and white because I think black and white is a strong couple. This painting reached the beginning of my goal. This will be the first paint pour of the more paint pours to come. I learned while making this artwork that nature has the final say in what the painting will look like because when I first paint poured this artwork it looked a lot different but gravity brought all the colors to the middle and made ti was it is now. This piece will make me do more artworks in black and white.
